Already using a PayPal account in Nigeria? Thumbs up.
I have no problems with PayPal as a company but I have a problem with Nigerians who are desperately seeking to get a PayPal account by all means. Although it is quite possible to use a PayPal account in Nigeria, I mean, the world is practically a global village, Nigerians may have two residences and dual citizenship and then open a PayPal account. American tourists and expatriates coming to Nigeria may probably have a PayPal account and would still be able to operate a their PayPal account while in Nigeria. The company does not forbid the use of Paypal accounts from Nigeria, rather what it forbids is the operation of a Paypal account without an acceptable residency. In order to keep checks on accounts, Paypal at times requires account verification from those it suspects are operating the account against their TOS and so at times it requires banking verification and credit card verification from her customers.
The issue of opening a Paypal account is not really the problem rather the main problem is providing a valid verification and a lot of Nigerians seem too eager to have their PayPal accounts verified ASAP. The easiest way to verify a Paypal account if you are living in Nigeria is by probably having a trusted friend legally resident in an approved country like the US or UK do the verification for you. The verification can be done using a savings deposit account which he/she has online access to.

I would not really advise people living in Nigeria to get involved with a Paypal account because the stress of opening and verifying one is not worth it and especially when you consider that Paypal has not accepted Nigeria yet, maybe sometime in the future it will, they are better options if you want to sell online as a merchant, use Google checkout or 2checkout. If you just want to recieve and send money online to friends and families or for donations, you an also use Liberty Reserve or AlertPay.

My advise to you concerning getting a verified paypal account is don't, there are better options that would gladly accept Nigerians: Use Liberty Reserve or AlertPay.

I guess sooner than later this will change. Just like you said, the world is now a global village.
