How I made $5 in one day from Amazon referrals

I have been a member of the Amazon associate programme for more than a year now but was not able to earn much from it. The only time I earned my first dollar was when I used Google adwords to target and drive traffic from searches in the UK to my Amazon store. It appears that Amazon doesn't support the use of adwords for its associates and Google adwords, likewise, does not approve of it as any subsequent campaign I made was suspended and so I decided to set up a blog that deals with Amazon's virtual products. I have then managed to make another dollar from that which was quite cheaper than adwords since all I had to do was purchase a domain name and use shared web hosting. However, this week, I made what I would consider a whooping $5 from an amazon sale for 8 products purchased by one buyer - Actually it was for a product link I posted to another website that deals with videos and the buyer bought that movie and other unrelated products. The DVD sale only brought me a dollar but the other products brought about $4. That's the good thing about Amazon's referral programme, you stand to make money from other products bought by your referral other than the actual product link - It uses cookies which are set to expire for a while
Initially, I saw that I had made the sale but it had not yet been credited to my account until it was shipped and the next day I saw $5 in my Amazon affiliate account - It was thrilling.

On the bottom line, here is what I discovered on making money from the Amazon associate programme:

1. Sign up for a free Amazon affiliate account at https://affiliate-program.amazon.com
2. Don't drive traffic with purchased advertising
3. Set up a website for making reviews of Amazon products and allow users to post comments too
4. Target a buying audience. Don't waste time targeting people who are not interested in buying.
5. Make lots of reviews and re-reviews
6. Know the keywords driving traffic to your site from search engines
7. Optimize your website to work best for that keyword
8. Add larger product pictures rather than just product links
9. Do more SEO on your best performing pages by adding newer content

The reason I have discovered why I was not able to make money from Amazon for a long time was that I did not optimize on my strengths and did not really focus on how to increase my income but now I am doing that and hope the next couple of months would be much better.
