For those of you who are still desirous of getting a Paypal account even if your are living in Nigeria, this may be good news - Paypal has began full services in Africa!
Ordinarily, I wouldn't advise you to get a Paypal account since it does not accept Nigerian residents at the moment and besides, there is a better alternative called AlertPay.

AlertPay, just like Paypal also gives users the ability to send and receive payments online as long as they have an email address and also has a lot of advantages over Paypal:

- Better customer service
- Better customer satisfaction
- Much fewer complains by merchants
- Lower transaction fees
- Does not limit accounts frequently like paypal
- Account verificiation is less cumbersome
- Has IPN and EPD

If you still need to open a valid paypal account, the good news here is that Paypal has opened full services in South Africa. Yeah, just a few months ago, perhaps due to the 2010 FIFA World cup, Paypal opened up more service to South Africa which allowed residents to both send and receive payments online using Paypal. Paypal had already been operating in South Africa prior to this but with limited services that only allowed users to only send money via paypal but now they can also receive payments online via paypal.
For South Africans or other Africans to be able to use Paypal South Africa, then they ought to be legal residents of South Africa and have a bank account or credit card.
For Nigerians who are eager to get a valid Paypal account to use for legitimate businesses, then Paypal South Africa may very well be the door to use.
Paypal did not say it does not accept Nigerians resident in other countries but rather Nigerians resident in Nigeria and so in order to be able to have a valid paypal account, all the Nigerian needs to do is:

- Have a South African residence or address
- Have a South African bank account or credit card
- Go to Paypal and use the South African address to register

If you still need other payment alternatives, you should try AlertPay.
