Is Konga an English name? Is it an African or Asian name? Where did a name like that come into being?

When I first heard the word Konga, I was a bit perplexed about what it really means. Is it the name of a person, a place or a thing in Nigeria? "Where did this word really come from?", I asked.

To different people, the word Konga might mean different things and may generate different reactions but what effect has it really had on the Nigerian audience?

In English, I don't think there is a word like Konga so it might be in another language. I speak Igbo language and as far as I know, it doesn't really mean anything. If you know Yoruba or Hausa, does it mean anything to you?

Well, to some people who love to shop online, Konga has become like the Amazon of Nigeria. To some others, it is a cool place for doing your online shopping and pay in Naira. To some Nigerians who are used to spending time in traffic prior to shopping, it has offered a discount on transportation costs. To Sellers, it has become a marketplace where they can actually sell their products and get paid for it. To Buyers, it has become a place where they can browse and choose products that they want to buy. To the competition, it has become a major competitor. To beneficiaries, it has become a place to receive gifts and also redeem gift cards. To online marketers, it has become a place to make money.

Konga is a growing online shopping destination in Nigeria and it's free to open and account and start buying items that you want to buy even without leaving your home or office. That's what online shopping is really about. Another good thing is that one doesn't even need to pay any money forward before receiving the item you ordered. You just need to verify orders with your mobile phone and provide your shipping address.

What is Konga to you?
