I just noticed that a Nigerian owned tech blog had been sold on Flippa for a cool $10,000. In Nigeria, that figure runs to about N1.7m and it's not bad given that the website has over 800 published posts and receives over 50,000 unique views monthly. The website I'm talking about is NetMediaBlog.com.

One striking thing about NetMediaBlog is that the content does not focus primarily on Nigerian content but on general tech stuff that would make meaning to tech experts, webmasters and SEO experts. The blog also receives a majority of it's traffic from United States, India and Nigeria respectively.

I have to say that creating and managing a successful blog like NetMediaBlog for a while which generates over 50,000 unique visitors per month is not an easy feat and something many Nigerian bloggers would only dream of.

Articles published on the blog are mostly of high quality as the owner writes in a language and style that appeals to many and not just Nigerians.

Flippa is a website flipping service and things like domain names as well as websites with content can be sold there. The good news now is that apart from Paypal, they also offer an escrow service that allows people to get paid directly to their bank accounts using bank wire.

Is your blog sellable? Well it might depend on a lot of fators such as teh domain name, niche you are in, your writing style, appeal to potential buyers and the amount of traffic you are currently getting.

I think the most important factor that could determine if your website or blog can be sold on Flippa would be the traffic it's currently getting. For the owner of Netmediablog.com, a website with over 50,000 unique monthly visitors to have sold for $10,000, it means he's getting paid about $1 for every 5 visitors his blog was getting.

Netmediablog also made use of Google analytics and this was a third party tool that helped provide independent traffic report to potential buyers. I mentioned the importance of third party traffic reporting here. Buyers need to know how much traffic you are currently getting but from an unbiased reporting platform.

NetMediaBlog.com was owned and managed by Desmond Nwosu prior to it's sale on Flippa and the reason why he mentioned selling it was in order to focus on his career since he got a new and promising job.

I know that there are some other Nigerian blogs that would be worth much more since they have more traffic but most other blogs are worth less and might still need to get some work done. I'm thinking they need to get at least 1000 unique high quality blog posts first before considering flipping their blog for money.

I think with this huge step taken by Desmond in flipping his blog, it might have just opened the way and set a benchmark on how Nigerian bloggers might start selling their blogs for money.
