The FIFA 2010 World cup is around the corner and this time, MTN is the official sponsor of this global event that will be held in South Africa. MTN is a major Telecoms company with solid presence in most parts of Africa particularly SA and Nigeria.
MTN in furtherance of its campaign for the successful hosting of this game has been investing in people and events which are aimed at winning public support and creating awareness of what this upcoming event means for Africa. As part of the campaign, MTN is also running an sms based promo which is tagged "MTN FIFA 2010".
How this works is that users can decide to participate in it by sending a text to MTN in the first place to activate after which MTN sends a series of texts back to the subscriber. For each win, the subcsriber is credited with a goal which will be used in a lottery that will bring out the final winner.
Lately, however, a lot of text messages have been ent by fraudsters to mtn subscribers telling them to register their personal details and atm pins on fraudulent websites. If you have recieved such text messages telling you that you have won, just delete them because MTN has said they don't send text messages to winners, only phone calls.

I too received a messages from these fraudsters of mtn about me winning the N1 million. Is it true or just a scam?
