There are many banks now in Nigeria after the recapitalisation exercise. They have reduced in nimber but also increased in capital base whihc has helped move Nigeria's economy forward with more opportunities for entrepreneurs to have access to quick loans, asset acquisition schemes, naira denominated credit cards. These banks no have enough capital to expand their operations across the length and breadht of Nigeria and also to foreign nations. It is such an irony that in spite of the global financial crises, banks in Nigeria are doing well and gaining grounds in developed but now financially distressed countries. Nigeria's economy has been rated as one of the safest economies in the world by Merryl Lynch and it cannot be far from the truth given that the banks are now more regulated than before, the economy experienced growth in earnings from crude oil and democracy is taking good root in the ground. I'm really optimistic that this trend will continue with the banks playing a vey important part in devloping our economy.
