We now have a lot to do with the GSM recharge card. Ever since we had a lot of gsm companies in Nigeria like MTN, Zain(Celtel), Globacom and now Etisalat coming into Nigeria, the craze for getting recharge cards at the right time and price has been turned on and merchants who see the huge market potential in this have made a lot of profit by becoming distributors for these big companies. Nigerians had suffered a lot in the hands of NITEL and when the GSM companies like MTN came with good services and the ability to budget your phone bills, we embraced them like the Messiah, now recharge cards are eating tight into our budget and if one can do an assessment of how much money you spend a month on buying recharge cards, it could be heart breaking.

People want to buy credit everyday and it is really a big business for retailers who hav opened shop in almost every street in Lagos not to talk about the mobile vendors we see walking around in University campuses and making a killing from students. The recharge card phenomenom is there and Nigerians are getting used to it. It has become a very vital aspect of our life or at least for those who see mobile communication as vital.
Recharge cards in Nigeria nowadays are not just sold in retail outles and shops but they have become available online for those who have internet access and want to load credit to their pnone without leaving their spot. They can do this on various websites that deal with recharge card for MTN, Zain, Glo and Etisalat by visiting the websites. These sites create a personal account for you and payments can be made by bank deposit, flash me cash or with your Atms, but as to how secure these transactions are and as to how to keep your ATM details a secret, i can't vouch for them, but it is a good innovation, i.e. buying recharge cards online.

Now you can buy recharge cards online wherever you are in Nigeria for use within the country. I don't know about topping up your phone when roaming, but i know of online sites like rechargenigeria.com and prepaidnigeria.com. They can sell rechare cards to you once you sign ups for an account with them and you will be paying with your local atm card

Buying recharge cards online may have it's hiccups. Your atm card details could be compromised. One cannot really trust all these online sites selling recharge cards and you can't say how many of them have real established business offices in Nigeria. I know that some banks have blocked transactions on this sites for their atm clients

I think that the atm card details will carry you to interswitch website which is the same issuer for atm cards in nigeria. Interswich is the one actually reading your security details and not these sites
