Getting a paypal account and verifying it is what a lot of people in Africa, particularly Nigeria would want to know. There are many bottlenecks Nigerians have to overcome in order to transact online business and one of this is having a paypal account. Is it really hard or impossible. Why has it become almost impossible to own your very own paypal account even though you are residing in Nigeria. For those who may not have known about paypal. It is means by which account holders can pay and recieve money online as long as you have a email address. You
don't need a card before receiving payments from paypal since they come as cheques and you don't necessarily need to have a credit card to make payments, funds can be transferred from
your account.
To get a paypal account you need to go to
Paypal and click on register. Make sure you are using a computer or cybercafe that has the ip address set as US.
After registration, you will need to verify your paypal account with either a credit card or a bank account. Verifying it with a virtual credit card account is the best option for Nigerians
as it is mostly accepted. You can get a credit card in Nigeria by signing up at
Graphcard and VTN.
Graphcard will help you create the virtual card and also give you a US address with a
phone number while
VTN is the means by which you will add money/fund to your graphcard account
So you need to sign up with:
-
Graphcard and
-
VTN
Then log in again into your paypal account and verify it, be careful, you will need to be using an internet connection that has a US IP address. To know the ip address of your internet connection, just go to
IP Address locator and it will tell you the country your computer is assumed to be in. This will work for your paypal account verification. They will send a code to your credit card that you will receive from graphcard, then follow the prompt and confirm your account. You will then be able to send and receive money with paypal.

I thinkt the main reason why Nigerians are so eager about getting a paypal account is because it is the number one means of online payment for most goods and it is more popular and secure. A lot of people are using it so that's why Nigerians are desperate for it.

Getting a paypal account is not a big deal especially for those who have accounts outside Nigeria like in the UK or the US. It would be so easy and convenient for them to open paypal accounts and verify them. But even if you are in Nigeria and Nigeria is not listed as a paypal country, you can still register with the UK or US as your country if you've got links there to help you. Better still, ask your bank or some of these paypal dealers in Nigeria to help you open one. But the most important thing is to use an ip that is similar to your registered country.

There are two sides to it. Open an account through someone here or travel out and open it by yourself. The main key to opening the account is having the bank account, like a us bank account. Now paypal accounts can also be verified with a VCC (virtual credit card) which will be single use only

You guys should be wary about who you may send money to when you want to apply for a paypal account. Many have been defrauded. Don't send money to anyone you don't know or who doesn't have a known office. It is better if the person helping you to get it is a relative or friend

Based on the discussions here, you would be able to get a paypal account easily. All you need to do is to select US as your country and use a cybercafe or an internet connection with a US ip address. Better still, you can get a paddy living in the US to help you to do this.

Getting a paypal account is a good thing. If it was only easy to do. The problem with getting one in Nigeria is the Nigerian factor. Paypal does not want anything to do with Nigerians for now. But again, if you are a Nigerian and hope to travel out soon or you are already in a foreign country where paypal is allowed, you can open a paypal account there and whenever you are in Nigeria, you can still operate your paypal account while here. Afterall, even some foreign expatriates have paypal account some of which they operate while in Nigeria. Paypal will not close your account as long as you have and can verify a US or other foreign address where Paypal is allowed.

You can still work with Paypal even if you are in Nigeria. With the internet, most of these things have been made easier. Paypal although restricted to certain countries, remains the best means of sending and receiving money online. So if you can get it, it is much better than other forms of payment

Hello I am from Northern Nigeria, actually paypal is afraid of Nigerians for the bad record we had and in which we are still having, the fraudsters, 419ners, and bad leadership which seems to fail Nigeria and for this to be okay this country has to be in two part with different name to each part in that way we can have a revolution and so other countries or service will be available to us if not it will gonna take a century redirecting nigeria. I have seen someone's posting about free calls code, isn't that fraud or some sort of social engineering? then someone in here asking people to send him money 55USD to help them open a paypal account, how does that sound to be like? honestly shit happens and the mess is going on in this country I was deny visa to pakistan just because i am a nigerian the same thing happens to me when i try to travels to US sometime back, lemme assure that we are not welcome even by the ethiopians though it sounds stupid they bet nigerians to be thieves almost 75 percent of nigerians they said are thieves. How can far can we go through?
Thanks,

My best advice to anyone who wants to open a paypal account. Get a friend or someone you can trust that resides in the US or UK to open one for you and you can get a US phone number by registering with Skype and using it. Once the bank account has been opened for you in the US, then you can verify your account for paypal

It is not necessary your account if it has to do with entering your bank account or paypal credit card. You can still receive money from other paypal account holders. You will only need to verify your email address in order to start receiving payments. The only thing about unverified accounts is that Paypal puts a limits on the amount you can send or receive

Well it is quite easy to start receiving payments online with paypal. But you should know that they don't register accounts for Nigeria. So you will have to choose s different country. Go to paypal.com and register. Then confirm you email address with them and you can start receiving funds. You can create a donation button with paypal and out on your website if you have one or even use a buy now button. You an also request money by entering the email address of your friends using the request money button.
When someone sends money to your paypal account, this is how you know;
1. You will get an email from PayPal saying that someone has send money to your PayPal account. You are provided a link to accept or denied the payment.
2. Accept the payment and complete the process

Verification of paypal account has a process and you will need these two things:
* Bank account information (eg. US bank)
* PayPal plus credit cardVerification adds authority and trust to your paypal account as it tells others using paypal that your identity has been properly verified.A. Verification using Bank account:1. Get your US or UK bank account information ready, including the bank name, account number and routing information.
2. Log in to your PayPal account. You will be at the "My Account Overview" page.
3. Look for the heading "Activate Account" and click "Add Bank Account." You may also add a bank account by going to the "Profile Summary" page and clicking on "Bank Accounts" in the "Financial Information" column.
4. Enter your bank information and hit continue. PayPal permits two ways to verify using a bank account: if you have online banking access, you can offer your login information to your financial institution's website, and PayPal will check the information to instantly verify your account. Alternatively, PayPal will make two small deposits into your banking account.B. Verification by Applying for a PayPal Plus Credit Card1. Scroll down to the bottom of any PayPal page.
2. Click the "Plus Card" link. You will be redirected to a page entitled "PayPal Plus Credit Card."
3. Locate and click on the "Apply Now" button.
4. Fill in the empty fields on the application form. Many of them will be filled in with information PayPal already has from your account.
5. Decide whether you want to enroll in the Account Security program. If so, check the box. Then read the "Terms and Conditions" of the card.
6. Click the "Accept and Submit" button. In less than 1 minute, PayPal will tell you whether or not you have been approved. If you are approved, it will automatically verify your PayPal account.

Paypal is not worth it. If you have got a paypal account, just dump it and move over to Alertpay. Paypal does not want people from Nigeria. It is that simple

Paypal is quite helpful and the most popular means of sending and receiving money online. I think boycotting it will not really help unless your business is only focused on Nigerian residents. But if you operate a global online business, getting a paypal premier account will be the best. The better option will be getting a merchant account to accept credit cards payments in order to receive payment from clients across the world

My own suggestion is to use a UK address and get a Paypal account you can verify easily. If you can't go to the UK then you can get a friend or Nigerian student studying in the UK to do it for you

You should try going to their office first before transacting any business with them. They are genuine in terms of getting credit card but if you are talking about customer service I can't say.

That's what I have been trying to tell you guys. Forget paypal and follow other options like AlertPay or 2checkout. No ned struggling to get a Paypal account while their fees are quite high and they don't include Nigeria. A third option is even Liberty reserve which is in vogue in Nigeria as well as a couple of other countries across the world

I heard Paypal is in South Africa as well as Niger. Can a Nigerian register through these countries and be able to receive money online?

Yes they are there and in some other African countries like:
Cape Verde
Chad
Gabon
Gambia
Guinea
Guinea Bissau
Kenya
Madagascar
Malawi
Mali
Mauritania
Morocco
Namibia
Niger
Sierra-Leone
Senegal
South Africa and some othersYou can only send from those African countries with the exception of South Africa from which you can send, receive and withdraw to a U.S. Bank Account or a card.
In the past, you could only send money from Paypal South Africa but now, perhaps due toe the 2010 FIFA world cup, Paypal has opened a wider door for South Africa to also be able toe receive money online from its service.

@Marcel, why don't you first set up and account within paypal and then have a website created for you where you can display your goods and services and then create a payment button from within paypal to use it to sell your items. If you are interested in seling digital items, then you can integrate paypal's ipn into your shopping cart to immediateley deliver goods to customers as soon as they have finished paying you for the service
